Why using a dark background?
Although it is not the trend we have chosen a dark background with white text as it is easier on the eyes; it also enhances the presentation of pictures.
Note: Black or dark text on a white background is ideal when printed on white paper - using a dark background on white paper would be a wastefull ink consumption. An electronic display screen does not use ink and a dark screen consumes less power than a bright screen, hence a longer lasting battery on smartphones or tablets.
